The major composition of phosphorous bronze bars and rods is copper with added tin and phosphorus. The usual composition is: 90-94% copper, 4-6% tin, and 0.01-0.35% phosphorus. This alloy has excellent wear resistance, strength, and corrosion resistance and is therefore used in marine environments as well as electrical components. The mechanical properties of phosphorous bronze include tensile strength between 550 and 850 MPa, yield strength between 250 and 500 MPa, and elongation between 12 and 20%. In addition, phosphorous bronze exhibits high fatigue resistance and good machinability along with excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking.
