Aluminium 5005 bar and rods is an alloy that consists mainly of aluminium with magnesium content ranging from 0.8 to 1.1%. Magnesium increases the strength and corrosion resistance of aluminium, especially in saline or marine environments. It has small amounts of silicon (0.2-0.6%), iron (maximum 0.7%), copper (maximum 0.1%), manganese (maximum 0.1%), and zinc (maximum 0.1%). It has good workability, weldability, and formability, therefore is suitable for this material to be used in architectural and marine structures. Other mechanical properties include tensile strength of 165 MPa, yield strength of 95 MPa, and elongation of 12%. This alloy also possesses good atmospheric corrosion resistance.
