The aluminum 6063 bars and rods are made up of 97.9 to 98.6% aluminum and have alloying elements of silicon in 0.2 to 0.6% and magnesium in 0.45 to 0.9%. Silicon helps make the extrusion of aluminum easier while magnesium acts strengthening and resisting corroding action. Mechanical properties include tensile strength in the range of 160 to 230 MPa and yield strength of 150 MPa while elongation could reach from 8 to 12%. This material also shows a Brinell hardness of 40 to 55 HB making it suitable for strength, ductility, and corrosion applications like architecture and structure. This grade of aluminum is also suited for welding and has an excellent surface finish.
